I’ve spent most of my professional life as a journalist writing other people’s stories. In 2017 I decided it was time to write my own and completed a Biography & Creative Non-Fiction MA at the University of East Anglia a year later.

My creative non-fiction work focuses mainly on food, family stories and the East/South East Asian migration experience (see Recent Publications). I am currently working on a book-length project about my maternal grandmother, who emigrated from China to Malaya as a mui tsai (bondmaid) in the early 20th century. I am also a co-editor of Hinterland, the quarterly magazine for new creative non-fiction.
